YOGA CLASSES

GROUP CLASSES

All my classes integrate knowledge from Physiotherapy, Yoga, Mindfulness and Somatics. Because of this background, I’m totally happy to accommodate varies levels of injuries/health conditions, but it is always best to get in touch first.

It’s really important to know, these classes are really inclusive and down to earth. It’s not a parade of bendiness, it’s some self exploration, care towards our (very varied and unique) bodies and minds. We might sweat, we might be challenged in ways we didn’t expect (me too) but even better if we have a laugh doing it. Yes, heckling has been known….

The classes are open to all, whether at the peak of fitness and mental agility or feeling a bit decrepit at the moment… it makes me smile about the class where 2 people turned up on crutches, setting up on either side of a super high level climber - I loved how they all brought and took away different things from the class.

CLASSES

DYNAMIC KITE YOGA -Wednesday Evening 6-7pm.

Drop in spots available until the last class of the year: Weds 18th December 2024

New term starts Weds 15th January with a 6 WEEK course until 19th Feb 2025. (Drops in also available)

Developed with the active person in mind, this class taps into the experiences of movement, wild spaces (inside and out!) and the natural world to bring them to the yoga mat and beyond. We use the KITE principles in this session:

K - Kinetic // I -Integrative // T- Therapeutic // E- Experiencial

This class includes flowing movements of the body, stretches, breathing practices and guided meditation to bring strength, stability, flexibility and awareness to body and mind. It might help you deal with challenges, increase your confidence, be part of an injury prevention or cross-training strategy. You might just want to move more, raise the heart-rate a little and then experience the inner quiet which can follow.

All are welcome, but having a moderate level of fitness and ability to easily get up and down from the floor will enable you to get the most out of this session.

No yoga experience is necessary, although a good level of general strength helps to get the most out of the class.  Injuries can be accommodated, but please let me know!

Please bring a mat if you have one, there will be limited mats available to borrow :-)

Next Course/Block runs from the 15thJan until the 19th Feb inclusively. 6 session = £45 or Drop in at £10.

SPACES ARE LIMTED TO SO PLEASE CLICK TO BOOK OR CALL 07908065376

MINDFULNESS YIN YOGA - Monday’s 9:45am - 10:45am

Last session of the year: Mon 20th Dec

Next Course/Block runs from the 13thJan until the 17th Feb inclusively. 6 session = £45 or Drop in at £10.

These classes are designed to really add spaciousness to the body. Sustained holds of (supported) yoga postures allow certain soft tissues such as fascia to ‘stretch’ resulting in reduction of tight sport and better joint health. We generally hold the postures for 3-5minutes, creating the ideal opportunity to explore concepts of mindfulness. These ideas, such as ‘letting go’, ‘curiosity’, 'patience’ are fostered and practised on the yoga mat, but really translate off the mat too. Furthermore, using the sensations in the body as an anchor, it is an opportunity to explore our connection with our body and our mind. This in turn allows is to respond to situations mindfully, rather than just reacting; it also allows a deeper understanding of our body, which really helps when preventing or managing injury, discomfort and recovery.

This type of yoga is especially useful for the over 30’s; athletes who have pushed their bodies a lot over the years and those who would like to meditate or give it a go but don’t like the thought of long periods of sitting…

Please bring a mat if you have one, a cushion and a blanket (there will be limited mats available to borrow :-)

Next Course/Block runs from the 13thJan until the 17th Feb inclusively. 6 session = £45 or Drop in at £10..

SPACES ARE LIMTED TO SO PLEASE CLICK TO BOOK OR CALL 07908065376

No yoga or mindfulness experience needed - but seasoned practitioners are welcome.

GENTLE KITE YOGA

MONDAYS 11AM-12

Last class of the year, Mon 16th Dec.

These drop in sessions will run from the 13th Jan until 17th Feb for the next block.

This class is designed to release stiffness and soreness in our bodies, a bit like yoga WD40 for the joints! This gentle practice is a mixture of standing, sitting and lying down postures -with breathing practices and guided relaxation to de-stress the mind too. It’s an opportunity to give our bodies some attention, particularly if you spend long hours sitting or in awkward positions; if you’re very physically active and you need to show some self care to your body; or just if you’re feeling a bit tired and achey!

To try to widen participation in yoga and make it more accessible to all this class is on a PAY WHAT YOU CAN basis. You might be going through financial difficulty, or you have some big bills coming up - times are tough at the moment- but it’s probably when we need yoga most! You might be in a position to have the funds to invest in yourself and this class, and if this is the case, this is welcome too!

Please bring a mat if you have one, there will be limited mats available to borrow :-)

NO YOGA/MEDITATION EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

LOCATION

All classes are held at the KITE CENTRE ( the Old RSPB Tollie Red Kite Centre at Lochussie)

Road Directions:

From Dingwall towards the West:

From the Dingwall/Maryburgh roundabout, take the A835 towards Ullapool. After 0.2 of a mile take the turning to the Right (this is also signposted for the Respite Care centre).(If you miss this just take the next Right and follow the instructions below). Wiggle your way up the hill for about a mile until you come to a faded T junction (Lochussie Cabins are on the Left). Take the left turn. Follow the straight road for about 0.2 of a mile and take the first Right up a single track. Follow the track up for about half a mile and you will end up at the car park for the Kite Centre. If it feels like you’re driving into the middle of no-where, then you’re probably on the right track.

If you’re coming from the Contin direction on the A835.

Go past the signs for ‘Brahan,’ continue for about 0.7 miles then take a left up the ‘brae.’ If you reach the sign for the Respite Centre, you’ve missed the turn, but you can just follow the instructions about. Continue up the Brae for about half a mile. You’ll go through a small collection of houses in ‘Keithtown’, take the first Left up a single track. Follow the track up for about half a mile and you will end up at the car park for the Kite Centre. If it feels like you’re driving into the middle of no-where, then you’re probably on the right track.

POLITE REQUEST: There is a 10mph restriction on the lane up to the Kite Centre due to the surface of the road and kids and dogs playing (usually mine..ha).

Yoga Workshops

I LOVE holding workshops. Such a wonderful opportunity to share knowledge and make it accessible. Whether its a deeper insight into one of my classes, i.e. Yoga for Adventure Sports; or exploring concepts such as contentment/injury prevention/persistent pain, through the lens of yoga, psychology, physiotherapy, environmental philosophy and/or mindfulness these sessions include theory, a practical component and often tea…. Usually last 2.5h, although can be longer or shorter on request.
